The Brazilian Institute of Museums sponsors projects for museums to act as a “point of memory” for a community. CIESPI’s Network of Playing and Learning and the Center of Culture and Play Education in Rocinha, which CIESPI assists, have sponsored two such points of memory for the Rio communities of Horto and Rocinha resulting in the creation of the Museum Sankova and the Museum of Horto. These projects have been produced in alliance with people and institutions in those two communities and the communities of Santa Marta and Mangueira de Botofogo. The purpose of these projects is to create a conjunction of people, local stories, and collaborations which create an archive of images, personal accounts, and toys for the use of the communities. This year the project, the Playfulness of Memory was involved in the creation of three videos for the Rocinha community, the Memory of Water in Rocinha, the Samba that Sings of Rocinha, and Playful Walks.
