VICTORY FOR STREET CHILDREN IN RIO: CIESPI AND PARTNERS ACT WITH COALITION TO ROLL-BACK REPRESSIVE MEASURES


In May 2011, the Secretariat of Social Development in the city of Rio de Janeiro under orders from the Mayor, issued an order that essentially suspended habeas corpus for street children. This action was both illegal and contrary to the policy on street children passed by the Children´s Rights Council of Rio in 2012, a policy passed with the support of a coalition pulled together and then facilitated by CIESPI.
