Rocinha, listen to the children. And Jardim Catarina as well! Bulletin No. 2 published

In this second bulletin of the project Safe, Inclusive and Participatory Early Childhood Education, we discuss the importance of listening to children. The bulletin relates the recent experience of CIESPI working with the Brazilian National Coalition for Early Childhood to listen to children about their experiences during the Covid pandemic. The initiative involved listening to thirty-two children in eight Brazilian states. A video was made from the children’s responses and drawings in which they express their reactions to Covid and their hopes for the future.

The parent project is coordinated by the Moray House School of Education and Sport at the University of Edinburgh and in Brazil by Professor Irene Rizzini of CIESPI/PUC-Rio. The goals of the project are to study and contribute to debates and actions on the education of children and their families in the two low-income communities of Rocinha and Jardim Catarina in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The project aims to develop partnerships in these communities and their municipalities to promote early childhood education on the principles of inclusion and participation.
