On September 29th, 2023, during the XXXI Scientific and Technological Initiation Seminar at PUC-Rio, Priscila Alves an undergraduate student in the Department of Social Work and member of the CIESPI/PUC-Rio team, received an honorable mention for presenting one of the four best research projects in the Social Sciences.
Priscila Alves is supervised by professor Irene Rizzini as part of the International and Canadian Partnership on the Rights of the Child, a collaboration between CIESPI/PUC-Rio and the Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada, coordinated by professor Tara Collins. The project focuses on analyzing the participation of adolescents and young people in the promotion and protection of their rights. The project also analyzes intergenerational relationships built in decision-making processes and political advocacy spaces. One of the main objectives is to understand the mechanisms and strategies for youth participation and their consequences for the field of public policies. The research and action project carried out in Brazil is developed in collaboration with the Youth Forum South Fluminense in Action (FJSFA-VR).
According to the young researcher: “It is a very productive study. To reflect on the right to participation of a group that is often ignored is in line with the code of ethics and practice that I want in my future profession”.
Priscila has also been involved in other CIESPI/PUC-Rio’s initiatives on child participation: Bibliographic Database Child and Youth Participation – Academic Production in Latin America (2005-2022), the Citizen Participation: Child and Youth Population in Focus, with the support of the State Research Agency FAPERJ/CNE and the project International Child Protection Policies and Programs, with the support of the federal Research Council Capes.
The CIESPI/PUC-Rio team is extremely happy and proud of this achievement. We congratulate Priscila Alves for her dedication and outstanding performance.
