CIESPI launches a new bibliographic data base on climate change

We have now published the bibliographic data base Children, adolescents, youth and climate change-National and international academic publications (2020-2024).  This publication is part of the project Citizen participation: children and youth in focus coordinated by professor Irene Rizzini (PUC-Rio/DSS/CIESPI) with the support of  FAPERJ. (CNE - Processo E-26/201.113/2022). To learn more about this project, click here.

This data base brings together 142 academic publications in Portuguese and 296 in English published between 2020 and 2024. The goal is to map and analyze recent patterns in the scientific literture touching on themes as climate change, climate justice, environmental education, rights, participation, and social-environmental impacts.

Access the data base here.

Together with this data base, we are lauchning a series of bulletins exploring the actual debate which connects children and youth to climate change and its impact. This series is based on academic articles and reports produced by Brazilian, international, and multi-lateral organizations which can also be downloaded in this new data base.

The first bulletin refers to the question of climate change and climate justice; the second to issues in environmental education, and the third to how different themes in this debate are treated by government, and non-government organizations nationally and internationally.

Bulletin 1: Articles on climate change and climate justice in the Brazilian literature.

Bulletin 2: Articles on environmental education in the Brazilian literature.

Bulletin 3: Reports on climate change from national, international, and multi-lateral organizations.

All of this work is connected to the case study “What climate is this? Youth for climate justice“ which is part of the International and Canadian Partnership for the rights of Children (ICCRP) coordinated internationally by professor Tara Collins (Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada) and in Brazil by professor Irene Rizzini (PUC-Rio/CIESPI) In this larger project we seek to touch on the themes of climate change in an accessible form to arouse the interest of more young people. These products have as a base the study “Adolescents, youth and climate change in Brazil“ coordinated by professor Irene Rizzini (PUC-Rio/DSS/CIESPI) with the support of the José Luiz Egydio Setúbal Foundation and the New Institute for Health, with the support of the City School Learning Association. The study included in-person, open-and closed ended questions with 200 young students aged 12-18 in public and private schools in each region of Brazil to understand what they thought and how they acted on climate change.
