CIESPI ANNOUNCES WORKING SEMINAR ON YOUNG MOTHERS LIVING IN PRECARIOUS SITUATIONS

In April, 2016, CIESPI is holding a multi-disciplinary seminar on the issues confronting teenage mother either living in precarious situations or actually on the streets. The seminar will discuss what are dimensions of this problem in Rio de Janeiro; what are the main challenges facing these young women; who are responsible for helping them and who actually helps them. The seminar then examines what policy and practice changes would better assist these young people. Among the people invited to the seminar are advocates, street educators, social workers, and medical and mental health professionals. CIESPI has a long history of applied research, policy development and advocacy on behalf of street children and this is the latest aspect of the problem CIESPI is tackling. The Institute gratefully acknowledges the Oak Foundation in Geneva, Switzerland, for supporting this work, and the ongoing support of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.
