Note of Repudiation of The Children and Adolescents Murder in Brazil*
The Brazilian National Early Childhood Network (RNPI) expresses its total repudiation of the deaths of children and adolescents by armed conflicts in the favelas and periphery areas of Brazil.
The Brazilian National Early Childhood Network is a non-partisan network composed of two-hundred and forty institutions including organizations from civil society, the government, the private sector and
other coalitions which act either directly or indirectly for the promotion, defense and guarantee of the rights of young children (children up to the age of seven) without discrimination based on race and ethnicity, gender, region, religion, ideology, political party, family income, sexual orientation
or any other basis.
The context of destitution, poverty, and social inequality have been recognized by studies for many years as a locus of discrimination and social exclusion, especially in the black and brown population, and favoring barbaric behavior and crimes against humanity. In our view, this happens due to the absence of assertive and inclusive public policies for protection and safety. These policies continued to be ignored by government in Brazil.
We express our profound indignation for the absence of a sense of citizenship throughout the country and principally by the public power. But despite this absence, we look forward to concrete actions to change the current reality. We repudiate the normalization and dehumanization with which the murders of these children and adolescents by ‘lost bullets’ irresponsibly misfired have been treated.
According to studies by UNICEF, thirty-one children are killed each day in Brazil. It is critical that we undertake serious reflection about the causes that have taken us to this tragedy.
Our cry is: No more. No more children and adolescents murdered.
We demand the right to a full and dignified life for all children and adolescents!
